Ivorian Salad Recipe

A lovely condiment to serve with grilled meat.

When I moved from South Africa to the Ivory Coast, I noticed that most people didn’t eat “normal” salad with lettuce, but rather a special Ivorian salad. I loved it so much — especially with attiéké — that I wanted to share it with you guys. This salad is good with poulet braisé or any grilled meat.

Country of Origin:  Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire)

Serves: 7

Ingredients

3 tomatoes, seeded and finely diced
2 red onions, finely sliced in half moons
2-5 green habañero chillies (or to taste), seeded and thinly sliced

For the dressing:

a pinch of black pepper powder
1 Jumbo cube, crushed (or 1 Maggi chicken seasoning cube, if Jumbo is unavailable in your area)
1 tsp vinegar
1 Tbsp oil

Method

1. Put vegetables in a bowl.

2. Whisk dressing ingredients.

3. Pour over vegetables and mix well.

4. Serve with attiéké, Ivorian Tomato Sauce and, Ivorian Grilled Chicken, or your choice of grilled meat or sardines. Enjoy.

    • Thanks Richard Uncle. You don’t have to put the peppers or you could use less. Otherwise,its spicy!
