During my time in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), I have gathered many new reasons to come and see this wonderful country; but, I decided to share the top three. Hopefully, they will encourage you to come and visit.
Abidjan is nicknamed the “pearl of the lagoons”. The lagoons here are surrounded by picture-perfect palm lined beaches. These beaches are covered with shells, especially towards Christmas. In addition, the many beach houses and hotels scattered along the coast provide abundant choices of holiday homes for all budgets. And, thanks to the wonderful climate here, you can go to the beach at almost any time of the year!
The food here in Côte d’Ivoire is amazing! From the delicious kedjenous to the mouth-watering poulet braisé, each dish involves a unique and delicious combination of spice and flavor. Each bite will have you begging for more! Food in Côte d’Ivoire is based on a wide variety of tubers, grains, chicken, seafood, fish, fresh fruits, vegetables and spices. A common and unique side dish here in Côte d’Ivoire is attiéké, which is similar to couscous.
From the clothes people wear every day, to the rich variety of local ethnic groups, and a lively arts scene, culture here in Côte d’Ivoire is practically everywhere. Traditional local fabrics, such as pagne and kente tell a story about their wearer–status, mood, and event are all communicated through the colors and patterns of traditional cloths. There are unique cloths for funerals, holidays and weddings.
